SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The part-time Food Service Worker is responsible for assisting in the overall operation of the Campus Food Services.  While completing the various tasks involved, every Food Service employee must provide good customer service and encourage a student friendly atmosphere.
 
Please note, this is a part-time position for 29 hours per week.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
  • The part-time Food Service Worker reports directly to the Lead Food Service Worker or the Food Service Manager and coordinates most closely with the Lead Food Service Worker in carrying out assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • This position shares the responsibilities of student aides during operation business hours.

DUTIES:
  • Prepares daily breakfast, lunch, and other items and serves them.
  • Cleans the kitchen and serves areas in order to maintain sanitary standards.
  • Washes dishes, pots, and pans after each meal period.
  • Operates cash register and makes deposits at the end of the day.  End of day deposit includes counting and balancing register drawers with end-of-day reports.
  • Assists in the preparation and serving of menus for special College sponsored functions.
  • Assists other employees in the Hilltop Grill with any tasks as assigned by the Lead Food Service Worker or Food Service Manager.
  • Responsible for making sure all stock and supplies are locked and secure when business hours are over.
  • At the end of the work week, the closer compiles temperature checklists and gets new worksheets ready for upcoming week.
  • Preps and stocks supplies for next business day.
  • Assist Food Service Manager and/or Lead Food Service Worker in preparing orders for pre-approved vendors.
  • Organize and complete daily cleaning lists scheduled for the Hilltop Grill. 
  • Assist with food preparation, set-up and clean-up for catered events on campus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; knowledge of food storage, preparation, and serving methods; ServSafe Food Protection Certification desirable or ability to obtain same; must be age 18 or older; minimum one year experience working in food service, at a restaurant, school, nursing facility or hospital required.
  • BARISTA EXPERIENCE IS A PLUS.
  • CASH REGISTER EXPERIENCE IS A PLUS.
  • SERVSAFE CERTIFICATION IS A PLUS.
 
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships; ability to lift 50 lbs. and adequately store all supplies; able to stand for long periods of time; able to handle cash and make change; willingness and ability to conduct self in professional manner and to reflect a positive image of the Campus Food Service department. Individual must be reliable, punctual and display driving desire to work.
 
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires physical demands in regards to lifting and standing for long periods of time. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including occasional weekend hours. Individual should be familiar with working in an open concept kitchen. Individual will be working inside at most times, in and out of air­ conditioned areas, but there are occasional events held outdoors on patio or lawn areas. Must be able to handle the 'heat', both temperature and stress. Job stress sometimes occurs due to work load, last minute changes or customer demands, but the overall atmosphere is one of cohesiveness, positive energy and team work.
