SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Employee will assist with a variety of duties in the Campus Store, including operating the point-of-sale system; handling cash; opening and closing the store; and assisting with and processing online bookstore orders and inquiries, while providing stellar customer service. Other tasks may be assigned by the store manager if needed.
This is a part-time position for 29 hours per week.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- The Campus Store Assistant I reports directly to the Campus Store Manager.
- The Campus Store Assistant I coordinates most closely with Academic Affairs, Workforce Solutions, Continuing Education, and Registration staff.
- The Campus Store Assistant I works closely with publishing companies, clothing companies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Responsible for the opening and closing of the store.
- Assist with ordering textbooks and supplies.
- Assist with the receiving and unpacking of merchandise.
- Responsible for operating the point-of-sale system.
- Assist with returning books to publishers for credit.
- Process invoices and credit memos.
- Address and resolve customer complaints effectively.
- Process online bookstore orders.
- Assist with store inventory.
- Arrange supplies and place textbooks on appropriate shelves.
- Complete other tasks as requested by the store manager.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma required; Associate degree preferred. 3-5 years related experience, preferably in a retail setting or an equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate with tact and courtesy while building positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, publishers, vendors, and the general public.
- Ability to work under pressure and make minor decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining a computerized inventory and ordering system.
- Working knowledge of standard office software applications.
- Ability to lift cartons of textbooks and supplies weighing up to 40lbs.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Normal store environment that may include standing, lifting of cartons, and displaying new merchandise. Must be able to work flexible hours with some evenings and weekends.
